    everything

    “Everything”是静态的“所有事物总和”,但“道”是动态流转的——它周行不殆、贯穿于万物的生长、发展与消亡过程中,这种运动性和过程性无法被“Everything”体现。

    "Essence".

It fails to fully convey its indefinability. The Dao is broader than the confined idea of "essence"

Eternity. A core trait of Dao  is its nature as an eternal, unchanging principle, so "Eternity" captures its timeless stability.

Fails to reflect Dao’s generativity: Dao is the origin of all things , but "Eternity" only emphasizes immutability, not its dynamic role in creating the universe.

Unfolding “Unfolding” merely hints at its dynamic, generative aspect while missing its stillness, its void, and its function as the ground of all patterns and their dissolution.

Focusing on the operational rules of the Dao, one misses its metaphysical origin attributes and dynamic fluid characteristics, as well as its value guidance.

    unfathomable

Firstly, it only captures the temporal attribute of 'Dao' and ignores its creative nature—'Dao' is not just a timeless entity but the source that generates and nurtures all living things ("Dao gives birth to one, one gives birth to two, two gives birth to three, three gives birth to all things"). Secondly, it fails to reflect the immanence of 'Dao': 'Dao' is present in every mundane thing, not just an abstract eternal concept beyond the physical world. Finally, it overlooks the practicability of 'Dao'—people can align their actions with 'Dao' in daily life, while "Eternal" makes it seem distant and unapproachable.

I will use the word 'way' to describe the Tao

However, it can't involve the aspects of time and essence.

  • 王思宇17班 19天前

Origin.Simply put, origin mainly emphasizes "starting point" and "source", which has strong timeliness and causality, while the connotation of "Tao" is richer and more abstract.
