I’ve completed this course, and I found it truly wonderful and helpful. Most of the test questions are well-designed—they helped me review key points from the lessons and reflected the core aspects of the IELTS Speaking test. Thank you for creating such a great IELTS preparation course on MOOCs. I now feel more confident about preparing for the Speaking section.
What I enjoyed the most were the mock tests, the analysis, and the test questions. The course content is always clear and motivating.
However, a few questions were a bit confusing, and I wasn’t sure about their purpose:
5.3.3: "A test taker can't make notes before Part 2." I think note-taking only happens during the one-minute preparation time for Part 2, so "no note-taking in Part 1 or before Part 2" seems correct. But the answer given is "no," which is unclear to me.
3.1.2: "The IELTS examiner may ask you some follow-up questions based on your response. (No?)" Officially, in Part 1 and Part 2, examiners follow the set questions without adding their own. But in real tests, this can vary depending on the examiner’s style. I’ve had examiners ask follow-up questions in Part 1 and even engage in discussion.
1.4.4: "You should give a long response even if it's difficult for you. (Yes?)" I assume this question encourages us to keep talking. But I’ve also seen some guidance like avoiding long answers in Part 1, also considering the "KISS principle: Keep It Short and Simple," as mentioned in this course.
1.6.5: "Phrasing can help you change words in a text without changing the meaning." I guess it means "paraphrasing".
Final Test: "In the video, which part do the questions come from?" (A. Part One, B. Part Two, C. Part Three, D. Part Four). This seems copied from a previous quiz, but there’s no video here, so the question doesn’t really fit here.
Would love some clarification on these! Thanks again for this fantastic course.
