It is very important to note that your review should not be simply a description of what others have published in the form of a set of summaries, but should take the form of a critical discussion, showing insight and an awareness of differing arguments, theories and approaches.

If you are just about to enter a new research field, the purpose of writing a review is mainly to pave the way for your own topic, define and limit the issues you want to study, and put it in the context of history to examine its value, so as to avoid duplication with existing research. These points should be taken into consideration when reading and taking notes, so as to organize the read literature materials into a framework. Organize the materials well, in fact, a review is almost set up. John W. Creswell, a professor of educational psychology at Lincoln University in Nebraska, once proposed the five step literature review method, which can be used for reference in various fields. In fact, it can also be regarded as the thinking structure of material organization and writing. In his opinion, literature review should be composed of five parts: preface, topic 1 (on independent variables), topic 2 (on dependent variables), topic 3 (on the relationship between independent variables and dependent variables), and summary.
