I think this short story is very fantastic. If a story is going to do both, it has to be perfect in plot and characterization. A good story should have ups and downs in the plot, fleshed out characters, and vivid descriptions and words. And these elements are not independent. They should interact with each other to shape a good story. In this story, the plotting is quite brilliant. The author buries many ambiguities at the beginning, such as the room on the sixth floor and the balcony that is repeatedly mentioned. All of these normal things set the stage for the ending designed to make Max fall down the stairs
