The first sentence is from Alexander, he is a king, he has supreme power, he governs the people and the land, but he is troubled by power, he has his own mission and responsibility, if he did not have these, he might live as freely as Diogenes, unfettered, undisturbed.
Alexander and Diogenes were both philosophers, and although they lived in different social environments, they still had some similarities. At the same time, the words in paragraph 20 reveal two different kinds of freedom, one is the freedom of power, the other is the freedom of spirit. These are the two kinds of freedom that we yearn for in this world. They both have freedom.
(1) First, they all the philosophers, Alexander thought he could understand the Cynicism as the others could not. Second, they all thought as a "citizen of the world." and admired the figure of Hercules, who labored to help mankind. Third, they all knew that they were free.

Alexander chose to dedicate himself to the good of mankind, while Diogenes chose to be only himself. Alexander admires Diogenes as much as he admires himself, and if he were not such a man who would strive for power and the future of mankind, he would pursue freedom in Diogenes' way.
(2) Alexander and Diogenes shared the same philosophical thoughts, they shared similar perceptions. So although their social status is very different, their souls are equally free.

One determined to change people's minds, the other is determined to change people's material life.
2.Alexander thought he was free because he had absolute power and Diogenes was free because he didn't need any power.
Although this is a paradox, it can be seen that Alexander envied Diogenes' free life and wanted to become such a philosopher. There are many similarities between them. For example, they all have profound thoughts and absolute freedom, even though Alexander was due to status and Diogenes was due to thought.
1) I don't believe that if Alexander were the ruler of Athens, he would shoulder the mission of governing the country like Diogenes, as to some extent Alexander also possessed philosophical inclinations and believed he comprehended the truth and true essence of life.
2) Both Alexander and Diogenes believed that they understood the purpose of life, the essence of living, and the significance of it.
1.Diogenes and Alexander were both citizens of the world, and Alexander was a monarch, a conqueror, whose purpose was to conquer the land. 2.Diogenes and Alexander were both fighting for humanity, even if they were in different positions. Both of them are free. Alexander was free because he had unlimited power, whereas Diogenes was free because he had nothing.
The correlation between these two sentences is that the second sentence is a further, deeper interpretation of the first sentence.
1. Alexander was an emperor but also a philosopher who could really understand Diogenes. So he felt that if he wasn't Alexander, he would choose to be Diogenes

(1)Diogenes and Alexander are free. Diogenes was a beggar. He has nothing, but he has his own ideas to pursue, to promote his cynicism, to help human beings find their true value in life. His spirit is free and rich. Alexander was the king of Macedon, he ruled over the whole country, and any material thing he wanted was available to him by his power, with no shortage of supporters or money. He is materially free.
(2)All the people alive in the world have their own desires, they are bound by all kinds of things. But Diogenes was a beggar, no power and no need ; Alexander was a king, with absolute power, and nothing he could not get. So they are not bound by desire, only they are free.
(1)Alexander was the king of Greece, and his command of the military was very high, and his ideas were admirable. And Diogenes had a thorough understanding of what he was pursuing and his will for life. They are all citizens of the world, their identities are different, but their requirements for themselves, for the whole society are clear, they know what they want. So Alexander lost his power when he was not Alexander, but he did not lose his pursuit of the ideal, and he did what Diogenes does now.
(2)Alexander has the supreme power and honor, he has the most famous philosopher as his teacher, has the pursuit of countless people, countless money, he can do whatever he wants to do, his world is free of troubles, so he is free. Diogenes, on the other hand, does not care about all artificial and false things in the world, he thinks that all natural things are the best, he does not care about other people's ideas, he has his own ideals and pursuits, so he is also free.
Because Alexander and Diogenes are both citizens of the world, but they are different from others, they have their own pursuits, Diogenes has a rich spiritual world, not controlled by worldly money rights and social status, but Alexander has a very high social status, sufficient wealth and supreme power, and is respected by people.
Alexander's power, money, and status gave him freedom, material freedom, and Diogenes had spiritual freedom that was not bound by the world, and they had their own pursuits

As a king, Alexander's job was to rule the country, and if he were a beggar like Diogenes, he would have been willing to spread wisdom to save the world. Both Alexander, the king, and Diogenes, the beggar, were free: the one was free because of his supreme power, the other because of his spiritual abundance.
(1)Alexander and Diogenes are both philosophers, although they are different in status, but their thoughts and pursuits are similar, so Alexander can also be Diogenes.

Second, they were cynics, rejecting worldly desires and unmoved by foreign objects. Thirdly, they attach importance to morality and consider the interests of the middle and lower classes. 2.Alexander was free because he was the king of a country, with supreme power, not controlled by anyone else. At the same time Diogenes is also free, although he is a beggar, but he is free from the secular desire, regardless of the eyes of others, physical and mental freedom.
Alexander was the king of Macedon, the conqueror of Greece. He has absolute power, countless wealth and loyal people. But Diogenes had no property, only a broken cask and a garment to wrap himself in. If Alexander had not had such a supreme status and position, he might have lived like Dogenes, penniless and adrift, and may be thrown at pebbles. But maybe Alexaxnder didn't think it bad and will choose a life like Dogenes.
Alexander's power set him free, and he had acquired almost everything in the world. He can do anything he want. Dogenes had no rights ,no money and he didn't care about these. The only thing he cared about was his doctrine. So they are turly free.
First of all, both Alexander and Diogenes were philosophers and they both possessed philosophical wisdom. Alexander sought power but was able to not be controlled by his desires, while Diogenes didn't care about external things at all, they were both masters in their own minds. Secondly, Alexander was free because he had the highest power and was not controlled by anyone, while Diogenes was free because he did not desire anything.
