(1)As a king, Alexander had a duty to rule and protect Greece. As a missionary and a philosopher, Diogenes had the purpose of spreading doctrine. While Alexander pursued external conquest to achieve greatness, Diogenes saw inner contentment and self-sufficiency as the ultimate goal. Despite their different identities, they have their own pursuit.  They knew what they really wanted. Maybe that's why Alexander said it.

(2)In Alexander's view, he was free because he has absolute power and Diogenes was free because he didn't need any power.

    1. In my opinion, Alexander and Diogenes are two kinds of ultimate extreme in different light.  Alexander who is not only a monarch, but also is a great thinker. His responsibility or mission is not confined to conquer the land, but rebuild the new environment in his ways. He takes all factors into consideration. Diogenes has no representative identity towards the people. His missionary is simple and endeavors to use his doctrine or power to those who are willing to change, just one person.

    2. Followed by the paragraph, the man who truly alive in the world must have their own independence which is called spiritual freedom. They have their aboslute power in different direction. From Alexander's perspective, he has unprecedent power and knows what is wrong and right, so does Diogenes.

1.Alexander thought Diogenes was free and independent. Like himself, Diogenes also had clear goals(resatmp the currency, change human value), and he was a real person. Diogenes was the founder of the Cynicism, he reject social conventios, live in nature. Alexander can understand Cynicism, even  I think Alexander admired he, so Alexander called upon he.So Alexander said that.

2.Alexander was the conquerorof Greece, the Macedonian king, he had power, servants, expensive clothes, a big house. Every person greet him for promotion and so on. So Alexander was free. Diogenes was the founder of the Cynicism, he live in nature, reject social conventions. He had only a blanket and nothing else, but he didn't care. The most important point I think is that they both have a clear goal in life. So they are free.

1.For Alexander, being a monarch meant he had to know how to govern and love his people. He is kind and has a strong will. The cynicism of Diogenes pursues a true value of life based on the abandonment of material desires. This idea advocates the pursuit of nature and the emphasis on the inner world. Although the two men differ greatly in status, they both have their own sense of justice and the same concept of governance.

2.As Alexander said, if I were not Alexander I would be Diogenes, and the two men are in agreement about the value of the individual. They both stood for a spiritual freedom that was free of the social activities that could be conveyed to the citizens of the time. Alexander wanted to break the dark and decadent rule of the time and give the citizens real freedom, and this view happened to coincide with Diogenes.

The first sentence shows Alexander's approval of Diogenes's idea. If he were not the monarch of a country, he would choose to pursue an ideal and free life like Diogenes. The second sentence is an appreciation of two characters and a satire on the society at that time. Alexander and Diogenes were both people with their own ideals and pursuits. They are not people stuck in old customs, people who worship freedom and have lofty character. Both words are a tribute to the ideas of Diogenes, who was not trapped in the old customs, and pursued a free life.

First of all, Alexander and Diogenes were philosophers. Second, both men share the same philosophy, and both are cynics. In the end, both men also aimed to help humanity, and Alexander helped people politically by ruling the country. Diogenes, though a beggar, has been preaching his ideas to people, even using himself as an example. It's about helping people in their minds.

The question that both men are free is mainly in the right to draw, two people are two different aspects. Alexander had this absolute power, whereas Diogenes had no need of power. Neither is tempted by material things and becomes a slave to them.

(1)Alexander and Diogenes had similar goals in life, Alexander's goal was to change people's lives, Diogenes was to change people's minds. Alexander was born into an imperial family, so the way he achieved his goals in life was through the army and politics, while Diogenes was born poor, so he spread his ideas by example. If Alexander had been born like Diogenes, he would have lived a cool life because of his yearning for freedom, the same or simple life of Diogenes.

(2)Life here is not physical, but mental and spiritual. In this world, only Alexander and Diogenes live in order to achieve their purpose in life - to change people - others are "living" in pursuit of money, status, sexuality, power, etc.

Alexander was the king of Macedon, the conqueror of Greece. He has absolute power, countless wealth and loyal people. But Diogenes had no property, only a broken cask and a garment to wrap himself in. If Alexander had not had such a supreme status and position, he might have lived like Dogenes, penniless and adrift, and may be thrown at pebbles. But maybe Alexaxnder didn't think it bad and will choose a life like Dogenes.

Alexander's power set him free, and he had acquired almost everything in the world. He can do anything he want.    Dogenes had no rights ,no money and he didn't care about these. The only thing he cared about was his doctrine.                  So they are turly free.

The beggar Diogenes had nothing, but he wanted to spread his cynicism to human beings, to help them find the true value, to live a better life, this is his mission. So they all share the same desire to help humanity, and it makes no difference for Alexander to be Alexander or Diogenes.

1、Alexander believes that everyone has a different way of life due to different life backgrounds, and he admires Diogenes' sober cognition and high philosophical attains, believing that he has achieved unlimited freedom in his own world. It also shows his respect for philosophical doctrines.
2、Alexander and Diogenes were both famous figures in Greece at that time. Despite the vast differences in their lifestyles and social status, they both have significant influence in their respective worlds. As king, Alexander worked to strengthen his country and protect the Greek city-states. As a philosopher and missionary, Diogenes' goal in life was to spread and develop his own theories. They all have a clear goal, they all make a difference in their own field, they are not bound, so they are free.

1、This statement is a bit contradictory, but Alexander can understand cynicism that others cannot understand. Alexander had what people valued, power, fame, wealth. While others are only trying for their own interests, he is working for the good of humanity. He worshipped Diogenes' pursuit, not letting utilitarianism get in the way of life, not letting custom get in the way of nature, not letting the necessary get in the way of the necessary. He was what Diogenes called himself a "citizen of the world."

2、I think there are two reasons for this. In their pursuit of a lifestyle, Alexander pursued to build his own empire and realize his ambitions. Diogenes pursued a way of life that was detached from the world and returned to nature, he lived a simple and simple life, refused to enjoy a life of luxury, and chose the philosophy of the Cynic school.

In the second sentence, Alexander said that he was free because he had a lot of power, and he could do what he wanted; Diogenes, on the other hand, does not need any power; he is free.
