【课程简介】
The course adopts a formal teaching system, combined with authoritative materials and research results, and through rigorous explanations and rich case analysis, enables students to systematically grasp the basic knowledge framework and core values of traditional Chinese culture. At the same time, emphasis is placed on practical experience, encouraging students to personally participate in the learning and creation of traditional skills, in order to deepen their understanding and perception of traditional culture.
Through the study of this course, students will be able to have a deeper understanding of the importance of traditional Chinese culture and become the backbone of inheriting and promoting excellent traditional Chinese culture.

邱璟:南昌大学教授,博士生导师,高级工艺美术师, 中华人民共和国教育部课程思政教学名师,教育部课程思政示范课程负责人,教学团队带头人,教育部首批国家级一流本科课程负责人,教育部第二批一流本科课程负责人,江西省高水平本科教学团队带头人,南昌大学教学名师,江西省课程思政示范项目负责人,中国工艺美术大师评委,江西省专业技术资格评委会评委,江西省艺术教育委员会委员,江西省美协设计艺术委员会副主任。主要从事课程思政教学、文化素质教学指导美术与设计等领域的教学和研究工作。
迄今获江西省本科教学成果奖一等奖等奖项100余项。主持完成省部级以上科研项目20余项,发表学术论文20余篇,出版学术专著及教材20余部。迄今主持并主讲了9门跨学科、线上线下相结合,并在联合国可持续发展项目平台、新华网新华思政平台、中宣部学习强国平台等多家平台上线运行的精品课程及国际课程。

李啸初:对外经济贸易大学英语学院教师、基础英语系副主任。讲授商务英语听说、英语语音与会话、大学商务英语、大学英语口语和欧美戏剧等课程。李老师教学经验丰富,教学成果丰硕。曾参编及修订《商务英语综合教程》及《商务英语》等国家级和北京市级精品教材,并担任分册主编;主持参与多项校级精品课程建设项目和教学方法改革课题;李老师曾荣获北京市高等教育教学成果二等奖、校级优秀教学成果一等奖、校级青年教师基本功大赛二等奖及微课教学大赛二等奖。
魏明:对外经济贸易大学英语学院副教授、硕士生导师。多年来,承担综合商务英语、综合商务英语研究生课程的教学;同时从事商务英语口语、语音与会话、大学商务英语等本科基础课程教学;主持、参加多项各级科研、教学项目;发表多篇SSCI论文。
李靓:博士,对外经济贸易大学英语学院教授、硕士生导师。校优秀本科毕业论文指导教师、北京市优秀本科毕业论文指导教师。主要教授综合商务英语、文学研究方法与论文写作、英语语音与会话等课程。曾获外教社杯全国高校教师教学比赛北京赛区专业英语组二等奖;主持国家社科基金、教育部人文社科基金等项目。
李玉霞:博士,对外经济贸易大学英语学院副教授、硕士生导师。主讲综合商务英语、跨文化交际导论、英语语音与会话、高级商务英语写作等英语专业课程;李老师主持参与多项国家、教育部研究项目和校级科研课题。
付文慧:博士,对外经济贸易大学英语学院副教授、硕士生导师。近年来主要从事翻译学、中西文化比较及英语教学研究。付老师主要讲授综合商务英语、英语基础写作、商务英语听说、大学英语口语、英汉互译与技巧、翻译理论概论、商务翻译理论与实践、经贸翻译等课程;此外,付老师主持两项省部级科研项目,出版一部专著,发表CSSCI论文多篇。

陈新仁:南京大学外国语学院教授、博士生导师,大学外语部副主任、南京大学外国语言学研究所所长、国家语委中国语言战略研究中心执行主任,East Asian Pragmatics (ESCI) 主编、《外国语文研究》(CSSCI集刊)主编、《中国语言战略》(CSSCI集刊)第一主编、Pragmatics (SSCI)副主编、Researching and Teaching Chinese as a Foreign Language荣誉主编。研究兴趣包括语用学理论与应用、外语教育与教学、语言政策与语言规划等。独著、合著、译著28部,发表学术论文220余篇。入选教育部“新世纪优秀人才支持计划”和江苏省“333高层次人才培养工程”。学术兼职包括国际语用学协会顾问、中国逻辑学会副会长、中国逻辑学会语用学专业委员会顾问、中国英汉语比较研究会英语教学分会和话语研究专业委员会副会长等。匈牙利科学院客座讲席教授,哈德斯菲尔德大学(英国)、华中科技大学等国内外15所高校兼职教授。
Before coming to ETS, he developed advanced teacher standards and was a middle-school English teacher. He holds a Master of Arts in Teaching from Trinity University (D.C.) and a Bachelor of Arts, cum laude, from Villanova University.
Cynthia Newman (Reading Instructor) has worked in the field of English Language Learning for 30 years. She holds a Master of Arts in Teaching English to Speakers of Other Languages (TESOL) from the University of Northern Iowa and the Cambridge Diploma in Teaching English as a Foreign Language to Adults (DTEFLA, currently known as DELTA). Throughout her career, she has specialized in the curriculum development, teaching, and testing of English for Academic Purposes. She has taught in pre-university Intensive English Programs as well as post-admittance Spoken English/Teaching Assistant preparation programs, academic Writing programs, and English for Specific Purposes programs both in the United States and the Middle East. Since joining ETS upon her return to the United States in 2005, she has worked on the TOEFL iBT® speaking and reading measures.
Shawn Gorman (Writing Instructor) holds a Ph.D. in French Language and Literature from Boston University. He also taught French and English at the high school and university level in Europe and the United States for 9 years. He has published research on topics in 20th century French literature and philosophy and presented research on second language acquisition at professional conferences. He also worked as a librarian at Harvard University for 7 years.
Molly Palmer (Speaking Instructor) has worked as an Assessment Specialist in English Language Learning at ETS since 2013. She works primarily on the TOEFL® test speaking and reading measures. Before coming to ETS, Molly taught Spanish language and literature for several years at the university level. She earned her Ph.D. in Spanish Cultural Studies from Rutgers University in 2010. Molly also has extensive experience teaching English. She lived in Spain for many years, where she taught English to university students.
Faye Weidner (Host) joined ETS in 2013 and has been working on the speaking section of the TOEFL® test ever since. She works on development of speaking items and also oversees online scoring activities. Prior to coming to ETS, she taught English to university students in Changsha, China, and to adult immigrants in Washington, D.C. She holds a Bachelor of Arts in Linguistics and German from Dickinson College, as well as a Master of Education in Intercultural Communication from the University of Pennsylvania. She loves to study languages and explore the world—she speaks German and Spanish, and has lived in Spain, Germany, and China.
Insook Chung (Listening Instructor) is an Assessment Specialist in the Assessment Development Division at ETS in Princeton, New Jersey. She has been working on the TOEFL® test, specializing in listening assessment, and developing the SAT Korean Subject Test. She received her Doctor of Education degree (Ed.D.) in Language Education from Rutgers, the State University of New Jersey. Her experiences include teaching English as a foreign language in Korea and teaching Korean language in the United States.
Kathleen Fletcher (Moderator) is a TOEFL® Test Prep and Skill Building Product Manager at ETS in Princeton, New Jersey. She began her career with ETS in 2006 and over the last 10 years, has worked within the Global Education, New Product Development and the Higher Education groups. In her current position as a TOEFL® Test Prep and Skill Building product manager, Kathleen manages current TOEFL® test preparation tools, as well as works on the development of new products.
Elizabeth Jenner (Moderator) is an Assessment Specialist in English Language Learning at ETS. She has specialized in developing the TOEFL® iBT test and its supporting materials for test takers since 2004. She earned her Master of Arts in Applied Linguistics from the University of New England, Australia. She speaks Spanish, has lived in Mexico and Guatemala, and loves learning about the indigenous cultures of Latin America.
Ashley Woodrow (Moderator) joined ETS in 2013 as part of the TOEFL® team. She works on the TOEFL® social media properties and the development of the TOEFL® scholarship program. She holds a Bachelor of Science from West Chester University, and is currently pursuing a Master of Business Administration from Rider University.

This course teaches Chinese and foreign students the following thematic topics: traditional Chinese culture and the contemporary world, cross-cultural communication of Chinese cinema, Chinese literature and world literature, Chinese language, media and culture. It is designed to help students understand the multilayered exchanges between China and the world, and to improve their cognition of Chinese philosophy, culture, literature, society and life. By analyzing Chinese masterpieces in comparison with various local experiences, it will consolidate the students’ existing knowledge and expand their understanding of the connotation and denotation of Chinese culture. The discussion of classic Chinese works in multiple media platforms will help the students master the relevant English equivalents of technical terms, explore the underlying cultural differences, and improve their critical thinking of cross-cultural communication. The ultimate goal of this course is to enhance cross-cultural understanding in accordance with the enterprises of “Globalizing Chinese Culture”.

中国传统文化与当代世界 (郭岚)
这一专题包括饮食文化、“面子”和人际交往、建筑和风水等,全方位探究中国传统文化与物质生活、社会生活、精神生活的联系。“饮食文化”讨论中国人对饮食的选择和热情背后的文化成因,及饮食文化在语言、思维习惯中的体现;“面子”为学习者揭开人际交往的层层面具及其社会功能;等等。学生观照自身文化传统,探讨与中国传统文化异同,并探索求同存异之道。
Traditional Chinese culture and the contemporary world (Lan GUO)
This section includes food culture, “face” and social contact, architecture and fengshui by examining the material and the intangible heritage of Chinese culture. “Food culture” embarks on a quest for the cultural explanation of people’s preference for food, and delves into its impact on the Chinese language and the Chinese way of thinking. “Face and social contact” sheds light on the manifold meanings of “face” and their functions in social network. “Architecture and Fengshui” probes into the Chinese approach to man-nature relationship, and explores the dynamics between architecture, poetry and literature. Students are expected to introduce their own traditional cultures so that cross-cultural comparison can be made in class, and mutual understanding achieved.
中国电影的跨文化传播(杨静)
结合电影发展史,讨论当代中国电影业在体制、美学、体裁等层面的变革,选取有影响力的代表作品,讨论其对传统的承继与改革,对好莱坞的借鉴与创新,以及在银幕上建构的新型国族形象,探讨中国电影走向世界的有效路径;这一专题旨在帮助学生通过精选的代表作品了解中国电影的过去与现在,知晓中国电影产业的体系和美学的发展,以及如何向世界推广中国电影文化。
Cross-cultural Communication of Chinese Cinema (Jing YANG)
In view of the historical development of Chinese cinema, contemporary Chinese films manage to address to the world by re-structuring the conventional narrative paradigm, adopting Hollywood tales and genres, and constructing a new China image for global audiences. This section aims to help students understand the past and present of Chinese cinema through selected masterpieces, the systematic and aesthetic transformation of Chinese film industry, as well as the methods and strategies of promoting Chinese film culture to the world.
中国文学与世界文学(蒋竹雨)
翻译中的中国古代文学,例如古代诗歌的翻译实践及其翻译思想的比较与评鉴;文学批评思潮中的中国角度及其与西方文学评论的对话;西方文学文化作品中中国形象的建构与改变等。探讨如何让世界更深入更完整地了解中国文学,如何在中国文学对外传播过程中消除沟通壁垒,避免对立思维,寻求中国文学与世界文学的良性互动。
Chinese literature and world literature (Zhuyu JIANG)
To read traditional Chinese literature (especially poems) in translation; to examine the theoretical ideas behind the translating practice; to understand the Chinese perspective in conversation with western thoughts in certain streams of literary criticism; to trace how the image of China/Chinese in western literary works changes. The aim is to make Chinese literature more accessible to global readers, and to promote meaningful exchange between Chinese literature and world literature across the cultural barriers and the clichéd dichotomies during the exchanges of literary criticism.
中国语言、媒介与文化(朱红强)
介绍当代中国语境下,语言和媒介与当代文化之间的表征和互动。结合媒介和语言研究理论如:媒介修辞、媒介叙事、多模态等理论资源,阐释广告、歌曲、名人访谈、新闻报道、网络语言等多元媒介话语。引导学生了解多种媒介与文化话语分析方法、理解媒介话语和“自我”的关系、认识中国媒介在世界全球化语境中影响和特点。
Chinese language, media and culture (Hongqiang ZHU)
This section introduces the dynamic interaction between language, media and contemporary culture in China. With reference to theories of media rhetoric, media narrative and multimodality, it explores social discourses like popular songs, advertisement, celebrity interviews, news report and web communication. Students will learn how to analyze multiple media and cultural discourses, understand the relationship between media discourse and the "self", and recognize the influence of Chinese media in the global context.

教学方法: 采用“翻转课堂”的教学模式,学生在课前检索和阅读相关文献,并积极参与授课过程: ①参与以主题为基础的平台讨论。 ②以良好的书面英语分享观点。 ③课后进行广泛的阅读和电影/媒体研究。
Teaching Materials: Self-edited e-materials, PPTs, video materials and films (digital textbook Humanitarian China in the Global Era in compilation, to be published in 2024)
Teaching Methods: It adopts the “Flipped Classroom” model of teaching and learning, expecting the students to conduct the archival search and reading of relevant pieces before class, and encouraging the students: ① to participate in topic-based platform discussions and debates. ② to share their opinions in the form of well-written English. ③ to carry out extensive reading and cinema/media studies after class.
Course Assessment:
1)coursework (55%): the average score of all coursework, zero for no coursework;
2)final exam (30%);
3)video watching (10%): full mark for those watching all videos;
4)platform discussion (5%): full mark for those whose discussion is “liked” once;

朱红强:澳门大学英语语言学博士,暨南大学外国语学院教授,硕士和博士生导师。主要研究方向为媒介话语、社会语言学、跨文化传播。在Visual Communication, Multilingua, Semiotica, Discourse, Context & Media,《外语教学》、《暨南学报》、《外国语言与文化》等国内、国际学术期刊发表文章近30篇;专著、译著4部;主持和完成国家级、省级、校级科研、教改项目若干。国家级一流本科专业建设点负责人,中国高教学会数字化课程资源分会理事、副秘书长等。担任国内、国际多个学术期刊和出版社Routledge的匿名审稿人。
霍胜侠:广州美术学院跨媒体艺术学院教授,香港城市大学博士。主要从事华语电影、大众文化、城市空间文化研究。出版专著《南方影像:中国电影与城市空间》。主持国家社科基金项目、教育部人文社科项目、广东省社科规划项目各一项。发表论文于《电影艺术》《北京电影学院学报》《文化研究》《社会科学研究》等学术期刊。获得中国高等院校影视学会“学会奖”、广东社会科学学术年会优秀论文等荣誉。
郭岚:广东外语外贸大学英语语言文化学院讲师,获广东外语外贸大学外国语言学与应用语言学硕士,在广东外语外贸大学任教近 20 年,多次荣获优秀教学奖和优秀本科生导师;参与两本教材的编写、多个课程建设项目。
