In translation, comprehension and expression are inseparable and mutually dependent two core stages. Comprehension is the fundamental premise; it means fully grasping the original text’s literal meaning, contextual connotation, cultural background and implicit logic. Without accurate and in-depth understanding, expression will be deviated, distorted or superficial no matter how polished it is. Expression serves as the external presentation and ultimate realization of comprehension. It requires reorganizing the understood content with fluent, authentic and target-language-compliant words, making the translation natural and readable. Even thorough comprehension cannot be conveyed effectively if expression is rigid or improper.
