1111New media differ from traditional media primarily in their digital, interactive, and decentralized nature, while both forms remain deeply interconnected in contemporary information ecosystems. Traditional media—newspapers, television, and radio—operate through centralized gatekeepers with one-way broadcast models, fixed publication schedules, and professional editorial hierarchies that control content production and distribution, whereas new media leverage internet platforms, social networks, and mobile technologies to enable instantaneous, user-generated content, algorithmic personalization, and participatory communication where audiences can simultaneously consume, produce, and share information without spatial or temporal constraints. Despite these differences, the two are not mutually exclusive but rather symbiotic: traditional media organizations have migrated to digital platforms to maintain relevance, often using social media for distribution and audience engagement, while new media frequently rely on legacy journalism for original reporting and credibility, creating a hybrid landscape where professional and citizen journalism coexist, though this convergence also raises challenges regarding misinformation, business model disruption, and the erosion of shared factual consensus in fragmented digital spaces.
