My First Impression of When You Are Old (and Why It Hits Different)

By 豆奶 3天前 4次浏览

Hey everyone! I just finished reading Yeats’ When You Are Old in the course, and I can’t stop thinking about how soft but sad this poem feels. The line “How many loved your moments of glad grace” makes me wonder—do we really notice who loves us truly when we’re young, or do we only realize it later? Also, the contrast between the “false or true” love feels so relatable, right? I know this poem is super famous, but I’m curious: does anyone else feel like it’s less about romance and more about regret? Or am I reading too much into it? Also, have any of you connected this poem to a personal story (yours or someone else’s)? Let’s chat!
