"Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening" 和"To Brooklyn Bridge" 的提问

By 刘奇2023级 10-09 27次浏览

How do both poets use a central symbol (the woods, the bridge) to move from a concrete observation to a universal philosophical statement?

In Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening, Frost uses the "woods"—a concrete, sensory image of quiet, snow-blanketed wilderness—to shift from observing a moment of stillness to a universal statement about human duty vs. desire: the woods symbolize temptation (escape from "promises to keep"), and the speaker’s choice to leave ties to the shared human experience of honoring commitments.

In To Brooklyn Bridge, Crane transforms the "bridge"—a physical structure of steel and cables—from a city landmark into a symbol of human ambition and transcendence: he moves from describing its "curves of steel" to framing it as a bridge between earth and sky, life and myth, ultimately commenting on humanity’s drive to create meaning amid urban chaos.
