Golding seemed to regard the mass as unthinking cows who only wanted to follow the crowd or jump on the bandwagon. What do you think of his attitude towards mass wisdom?  what do you think of mass wisdom? Can you think of some examples?

Goldin's portrayal of the masses as "mindless cows" suggests a critical view of the wisdom of the masses, suggesting a lack of individual thought and a tendency towards blind conformity. This view may be seen as somewhat cynical, ignoring the potential of collective intelligence and the positive aspects of group decision-making.
The wisdom of crowds, while not always perfect, can be a powerful force. For example, crowdsourcing platforms like Wikipedia harness the collective knowledge of millions of people to create a comprehensive and accurate resource. Similarly, social movements often rely on collective intelligence

Golding sees the masses as unthinking cattle that blindly follow the crowd, which shows that he has a rather negative attitude towards the wisdom of the masses. He implies that most people lack the ability to think independently and deeply, and they are more likely to follow popular opinions and trends without really think of them.

In my opinioI, this view is somewhat one-sided.

The mass wisdom is not always wrong ,  sometimes, it may be a  good tool to maintain social stability. For example,  in china, every should have a same thinking that is love our mother land. This also must be a tendency that every one should follow.

However,  the mass wisdom maybe has a bad influence. For example,  as a scientist , he should have a creative thinking.  Then to break the routink  when doing  scientific and do not follow the crowd. Otherwise it will be difficult for the science and technologies to progress and innovate.

Golding holds a critical attitude towards mass wisdom. He believes that the mass often lacks independent thinking ability, like unthinking cows, wanting to follow the crowd or jumping on the bandwagon, rather than forming their own opinions through rational thinking. They are satisfied with sharing their prejudices and enjoying group consistency. Rather than facing or accepting contradictions in their own belief, this consistency is not equivalent to wisdom or rationality.

Mass wisdom refers to the collective or group knowledge and experience that drives social progress through sharing and communication. With the popularization of information technology and social media, people share experiences and obtain global information through Internet platforms, which has promoted the improvement of social intelligence. For example, Wikipedia is an online encyclopedia based on popular wisdom, with content jointly written and edited by users worldwide. Anyone can contribute knowledge, correct errors, or supplement information. Through collaboration and knowledge sharing, Wikipedia has become a widely covered, rapidly updated, and free knowledge base.

Although mass wisdom contributes to knowledge sharing, it also has limitations such as information authenticity, effectiveness, and cognitive prejudice. People need to filter valuable information through thinking and discernment to ensure the correctness and reliability of knowledge. Taking "Cyberbullying" as an example, when an event triggers heated discussion on social media, group emotions are easily stirred up, leading to a large number of users spreading one-sided or false information without verification, and even attacking the parties involved. This collective behavior may stem from cognitive prejudices or emotional reactions rather than rational judgments. Although popular wisdom can promote information dissemination, in such events, group behavior lacking discernment and thinking often exacerbates harm and highlights the limitations of popular wisdom.

His view of the wisdom of the masses is sceptical. He believes that people often lack independent thinking and tend to follow the crowd. He used the analogy of "grazing along the hillside like a cow" to describe how people like to follow the crowd without considering other possibilities.
Popular wisdom can sometimes be beneficial - for example, in a democracy, majority decisions are often fairer - but it can also fail, with hundreds of thousands of losses when the crowd chooses the wrong leader
We should encourage independent thinking and value different points of view so that collective decisions can be made more wisely

I think his attitude is too extreme, he only sees the bad side of popular wisdom too much.
I think the wisdom of crowds has two sides: on the positive side, mass wisdom is based on previous knowledge and brings together the insights, experiences and opinions of the majority of the population. When dealing with general problems or facing general decisions, it can save a lot of time and energy, and reduce the cost and risk of thinking when we make decisions. In some emergency situations, herd mentality and crowd wisdom can help people respond quickly.
On the other hand, the wisdom of the masses may be constrained by traditional thinking, it is difficult to break through the conventional and get innovative, and it is easy to blindly follow the experience and others while ignoring the actual situation and requirements in the face of new and unusual situations. In some group decision-making, they may ignore different opinions and potential risks and go to extremes.
Therefore, I believe that the wisdom of the masses should be appropriately used and critically accepted.
For example: Here is an example that happened to me. In the last semester, because I deeply agree with the frenzy of buying gold on the Internet, I invested my savings in gold under the circumstances of my own difficulties. In the first few days, I did see gains, but after a week, gold took a big dive because of Trump's election, and there was a constant stream of talk on the Internet that gold was about to hit a low and to sell at this point. When I saw that my profit was negative, I sold. The end result was that I lost money, but gold soon resumed its upward trend and kept breaking new highs. It can be seen that we should keep independent thinking according to the reality, not blindly follow, and accept suggestions appropriately.

Golding may have believed that the public tends to follow blindly, lacks independent thinking, and is easily manipulated by a few powerful people or emotions to make irrational decisions. His works show the phenomenon of collective unconsciousness in which individuals may lose their self-awareness and judgment when they integrate into the group.
I believe that mass wisdom can gather and reflect the broad views and experiences of a group or society, thus playing an important role in decision-making and problem-solving.
For example, brainstorming: At the beginning of a group assignment, members usually brainstorm, each person proposing their own ideas and opinions. This process takes advantage of the diversity and creativity of the group, pooling the knowledge and experience of different members to generate more ideas.

I think his attitude towards mass wisdom is quite one-sided. Mass wisdom is the wisdom generated through collective participation and collaboration, which is the combination of the positive and excellent ideological achievements of the majority of people. The mass wisdom is innovative, diverse, accurate, and democratic. Although there may be errors and potential risks in mass decision-making in rare cases, as long as it is used correctly, it can promote social development and help people make wise decisions based on collective experience. For example, restaurant ratings are a reflection of mass wisdom. People can have a basic understanding of a restaurant through ratings, roughly knowing the hierarchical standards of the restaurant's food, environment, and service attitude, providing more reliable suggestions and guarantees for people's dining.

I think Golding holds a critical attitude toward mass wisdom, because in the text, he said that the masses as unthinking cows. This view reflects his belief that such people do not think independently, but blindly follow the masses, lacking the ability to think independently and the judgment of things. Moreover, in paragraph 23 of the text, he said that this way of thinking is feeling, rather than thought.

In my opinion, mass wisdom has two sides. On the one hand, if we are in a dilemma or have many situations that we cannot choose, following the behavior of the public can often help us make decisions and improve our efficiency. For example, when we struggle to choose which restaurant to eat, the one with more people tends to taste better. On the other hand, if we blindly follow the trend and lack our own independent thinking, it may produce many negative effects. For example, it was popular to release balloons and set off fireworks during New Year's Eve to celebrate the coming of the New Year in previous years, but this year, due to safety problems, the Nanjing government issued a notice banning this behavior, but there were still many people who just wanted to follow the craze and broke the rules, setting off fireworks in Nanjing neighborhoods and were punished by the police.

Therefore, I think we should view mass wisdom correctly. When we are confused or unable to make a decision, we can learn from others' behavior, but we should not blindly follow it. We should keep independent thinking.

n "Thinking as a Hobby", Golding's view of the mass may seem harsh. While there's truth in the idea that some people blindly follow, it's unfair to label the whole mass as unthinking. Mass wisdom exists. For example, in crowdsourcing projects like Wikipedia, the collective efforts produce a vast knowledge base. Also, in times of crisis, communities often come up with innovative solutions, showing the power of mass wisdom.

Mass wisdom is a type of way of thinking. It means people think the way most people think. Golding compares people to mindless cows because he perceives that such people can't think by themselves. His attitude towards them is mockery and  negative. In my opinion, mass wisdom or popular wisdom is one of the ways we embracing useful ideas from others, and it sometimes provides practical suggestions. However, I don't mean we should follow others all the way, or we will lose the ability of thinking individually and our own style. For example, when we look at the new clothes of the year, we will find that when a certain style of clothes becomes popular on the Internet, there will be a lot of wearing of the same style in reality. On the one hand, this phenomenon does help most people solve the problem of not knowing how to match clothes, but on the other hand, it also makes more and more people lose their dress style.

Wiliam Golding has a prejudice against the mass wisdom. When I was a freshman in college, I knew little about Golding’s The Lord of Flies. The book unilaterally releases the drawbacks of mass wisdom. However, in real life, everything has its pros and cons. When we need to do a survey, the mass wisdom can give us various opinions and different voices, which can promote our work better. If we follow the mass wisdom blindly, we may hurt some people. For example,cyber-violence.The pink-haired girl, Zheng Linghua, is a graduate student at Huadong Normal University. She shared her joy of getting the university’s offer on the internet. Many people on the internet made up rumours and abused her appearance and persona. Though she confronted these problems bravely, the mass wisdom continuously attacked her with their own opinions. Unfortunately, the girl got depressed and left this world forever. So, mass wisdom has two sides, we should use it properly and avoid the mass wisdom hurting people.

Golding believes that mass wisdom is pessimistic. He believes that human wisdom is limited and there will be irrational impulsive behaviour.

I think mass wisdom draws on a lot of excellent opinions from the masses, constantly innovates and develops, and can brainstorm in many aspects, making decision-making more reasonable. But at the same time, mass wisdom also has its drawbacks. It will lead some people to have a herd mentality, which will lead to the spread of some wrong information and cause unnecessary panic.

The Great Wall, a famous building in China, is the result of people's brainstorming, which is used to resist foreign enemies and protect people's safety.

At first,Golding viewed grade-three thinking with contempt and mockery. But then he found that the grade-three thinking were numerous and very united, and he began to change his attitude and respect them.I think his attitude is correct, because in my opinion, everyone thinks differently. People are stubborn. When their ideas are widely agreed, they will not change their ideas. As a minority,Golding's ideas may even be considered alien, so we'd better respect grade-three thinking because we can't change them.

I think mass wisdom is produced by people's psychology of agreeing with each other. Of course, everything has two sides. Mass wisdom is reasonable and provides some basis for people's behavior. However, some wisdom has no scientific basis, but uses people's psychology to mislead others.

For example, nosebleeds are often thought to require raising the head to stop bleeding effectively. But this view is wrong. The correct way to deal with it is to keep the head down, because raising the head when having a nosebleed will make the blood flow in the opposite direction. It may flow into the windpipe and cause irreparable harm.

He was critical, even contemptuous, of mass wisdom. He believes that this mode of thinking will be affected by various social factors and will lead to blindly following, rather than independent rational and critical thinking. He believes that this kind of third-level thinking is full of prejudice, ignorance and hypocrisy, and can only be regarded as feeling , not thinking.

In my opinion, mass wisdom is a mindset of majority groups, based in some ways on people's long life experience and social consensus, and can be used as a problem solver. But its disadvantages are also obvious, mass wisdom is easy to lead to a fixed mode of thinking and blind following, which is not benefit to innovation and truth seeking. Part of mass wisdom makes people endorse to some old ideas and even impedes social development. Just like the widespread prejudice against women in many people's ideas, the discipline of women leads to the solidification of female gender roles, resulting in the pressure of marriage and childbirth and the restriction of female education and career opportunities. In addition, the mass wisdom that comes with blindness can be extremely detrimental. For example, some Internet hot spots that do not have positive energy go virality, and many people do not treat these events critically, but blindly follow the trend, resulting in the spread of some fake news, which has a negative impact on the Internet environment and produces many cyber bullying incidents.

I think what's reasonable about Golding's attitude towards mass wisdom is that the wisdom of the masse sometimes wanted to flow others and think less. They may be swayed by emotions because of prejudice and become out of control. But his attitude fails to see the advantages of it.Sometimes, when groups can be more powerful than individuals when it comes to innovation and collaboration.

I think the mass wisdom has potential, but it is easily controlled by emotions. They were numerous and united. They can play a huge role in innovation, collaboration, diverse thinking. As long as we control the emotions of mass wisdom and avoid bias, we can motivate the advantages of mass wisdom.

Example: Democracy. Our country is a democracy. Governments put their heads together and enact regulations by listening to the public. The mass wisdom has been harnessed to build a democratic and harmonious society.

Another example: Cyber-bullying. With the development of the Internet and the increase of netizens, there are some false news spread on the Internet. A large number of netizens have prejudice against a thing or a person, and they will carry out network violence against him. This may affect the normal life of others.

I think that mass wisdom can be powerful. When many people with diverse perspectives come together, they can expand their knowledge and experience, leading to more comprehensive solutions.

As the Chinese proverbs go, "Two heads are better than one" and "The fire is higher when many people add wood" can reflect the power of the wisdom of the masses. In today's China, our commitment to "the people as masters of their own affairs" is also a reflection of collective strength.

First of all, I would like to evaluate Golding's attitude: In Lord of the Flies and other works, William Golding reveals the irrationality and danger of group behavior through extreme situations, and his attitude reflects his deep suspicion of blind and violent tendencies in human nature. There is some validity to this view, especially in the absence of rules, where groups can be dominated by instinct or emotion. However, this attitude is also limited, because it ignores the positive role of the wisdom of crowds in collaboration and innovation.

Second, my view of the wisdom of crowds is that the wisdom of crowds is two-sided and its value depends on the context.

☞Positive cases, according to my search, the function of predicting the market, such as the collective judgment of the stock market or gambling market, often accurately predict the outcome of events.

☞Negative cases: Groups may behave irrationally. In today's era of social media, false information on the Internet spreads rapidly through group resonance, causing bad social impact and even panic.

To sum up, I think we should look at the problem dialectically and analyze it on a case-by-case basis, instead of completely denying the wisdom of the masses.

2.I think the wisdom of the masses is very useful if it is not to follow the trend of doing things. For example, Xiaomi Group makes use of Internet discussion and according to the real feedback of users, constantly develops products and makes improvements to truly meet the needs of customers. But if the wisdom of the masses is just to follow the trend to do things, as Golding said, then this wisdom may be ironic in the meaning, for example, something happens on the network, the public does not know the truth, but to advise the side that everyone supports often brings a lot of tragedy

I don't agree with him, this attitude is a kind of demeaning and misunderstanding of the public. While it is true that there can be blind conformity in a group, viewing the masses as a whole as "mindless cows" is too one-sided and mean. Group behavior is inherently complex and cannot be simply summarized as "following the crowd" or "following the trend." In fact, much of social change, social innovation, and social progress comes from the collective wisdom and action of the masses.

Them mass wisdom, also known as collective intelligence, refers to the collective knowledge, insight, and problem-solving abilities that emerge from the collaboration and collective efforts of large numbers of people. It's a powerful concept that has made a big impact in a variety of fields, including sociology, psychology, business, and technology.

Mass wisdom has many characteristics :1. Diversity: diversity of sources and channels of ideas, as well as diversity of individual backgrounds, which can make ideas innovative. 2. The role of the group: The group can gather more information and professional knowledge. By brainstorming, more novel ideas and solutions can be obtained. 3. In certain situations, such as stock market forecasting or event outcome forecasting, the collective judgment of the crowd is often more accurate than that of individual experts. But crowd wisdom can also be affected by groupthink, confirmation bias, and other cognitive biases. These biases can lead to wrong conclusions or decisions.

Panic selling in the stock market: When the stock market falls sharply, many investors blindly follow the trend and sell without adequate analysis, causing stock prices to fall further.
Cyber violence: In some cyber incidents, some netizens blindly attack others without understanding the truth, forming cyber violence. These two examples are one of the negative examples of the mass wisdom, but there are also good aspects, such as silence in public places: in the library, movie theater and other public places that need to be quiet, most people will consciously abide by the rules and keep quiet, which is a positive conformity behavior.

All in all, the mass wisdom is a valuable and often undervalued resource. When used effectively, it can lead to significant progress and innovation. However, it is important to be aware of its limitations and to foster an environment that encourages constructive collaboration and reduces potential bias.

I think Golding's attitude is somewhat extreme and pessimistic. He believed that groups frequently dissolve individual rationality, causing individuals to lose their capacity for independent judgment and thought. However, his statement does have some validity. When groups lack rule constraints and rational consensus, they are indeed prone to blind behavior.

In my opinion, we should view mass wisdom from a dialectical perspective. Firstly, It benefits from the complementary diversity. Individuals from different backgrounds can offer multiple perspectives, thereby filling the blind spots of single thinking. Take Wikipedia as an example. Edited by global volunteers, it has an error rate comparable to that of the Encyclopaedia Britannica studied by Nature magazine, and it even boasts a faster update rate. Secondly, it has the advantage of enhanced fault tolerance. Individual errors may be diluted by the group, as seen in election results or other predictions, where group judgments are often more accurate than those of a single expert. Conversely, mass wisdom also has its certain limitations. For example, individuals may be influenced by authority or herd mentality, blindly following others' opinions and going against their true thoughts, preventing the group from comprehensively examining problems and suppressing the group's innovative wisdom. Moreover, there is the "echo chamber" effect in American politics. Groups with similar political stances create closed spaces of self-reinforcing viewpoints through selective exposure, leading to group polarization. To conclude, we should strive to build a healthy group ecosystem to better leverage mass wisdom.

First of all, I think that the wisdom of the masses is literally understood as the wisdom of the masses, so this kind of thinking by many people together will certainly have some effective results. For example, some of our ancient proverbs, "before and after Qingming, plant melons and beans", "one cultivates, one harvests", these experiences are summarized on the basis of the joint work and efforts of many ancient people, and are still helpful to the public wisdom. But there are other popular wisdom will also have adverse effects, for example, now many people will become popular because of some inexplicable reasons, it will cause a lot of irrational chase, people's emotions will be infinitely amplified through one thing, resulting in adverse effects. Another example is that some Internet celebrity restaurants are oversought and people are unable to make their own judgments, and in the end, they often feel disappointed.

So I think we should look at the wisdom of the masses rationally, promote its advantages and avoid its disadvantages.

Golding's view might be somewhat one-sided. On one hand, in certain circumstances, the masses do tend to exhibit herd behavior. When a TV drama suddenly becomes very popular, the masses will flock to watch it, even if some people may not have been particularly interested in it at first.

At the same time, the wisdom of the masses should not be underestimated. The masses contain boundless wisdom and strength. Relying on the wisdom of the masses, some fields have been able to break through limitations and continue to develop. For instance, DeepSeek, which became extremely popular during the winter vacation, is a testament to the wisdom of the masses. It has collaborated with universities, research institutions, and enterprises, pooling the strengths of all parties, achieving cross-field and cross-disciplinary integration, and causing a sensation worldwide. It is designed to provide better answers to questions, not merely to find an answer.

His attitude to the wisdom of the mass is critical, and he believes that the mass is apt to follow blindly.Mass wisdom is when groups work together to get things done.

One person's thought may have limitations, but many people can get different views together, so as to get a more perfect result. At the end of the semester, we completed the reading circle through group cooperation, divided the labor and cooperated, gathered wisdom and improved the speech through communication.

However, the pressure of the masses will lead to blind conformity, which will make individuals lose the ability to think independently. For example, some net red snacks, such as enamel pot strawberry cake, strawberry tart, a meter long sugar gourd, etc., as long as they are linked with love, people start to blindly buy. In fact, most people don't care how it tastes. Would a plain strawberry cake look good with an '80s basin? Can you finish eating a meter long sugar gourd? Of course not. People are just there to take photos and socialize.
