Chinese poetry: Can you recite any?

By IcyTrain 2018-05-01 240次浏览

Poetry has consistently been held in extremely high regard in China, often incorporating expressive folk influences filtered through the minds of Chinese literati. In Chinese culture, poetry has provided a format and a forum for both public and private expressions of deep emotion, offering an audience of peers, readers, and scholars insight into the inner life of Chinese writers across more than two millennia.

We were all required to recite traditional poems in school since we were little. Do you have a favorite poem or poet?

"青玉案·元夕", by Xin Qiji. Depicts the bustling street and beautiful lanterns on the Lantern Festival night. I like it so much. Perhaps you don't know it by the name, but you must have heard the famous lines, "众里寻他千百度,蓦然回首,那人却在灯火阑珊处".
