Paradise Lost is not typically considered a revenge tragedy in the traditional sense.

- Differences from Traditional Revenge Tragedy: In a traditional revenge tragedy, the central plot usually revolves around a character seeking vengeance for a personal wrong, often through violent and immoral means. In Paradise Lost, while there is a conflict between Satan and God, Satan's actions are not about a justifiable revenge. Satan rebels against God out of pride and envy. His motives are self - aggrandizement and a desire to oppose the established order, not to avenge a legitimate harm. For example, Satan's decision to corrupt Adam and Eve is an act of spite and a means to undermine God's creation, rather than an act of retribution for a wrong done to him.
