Eliminating discrimination is one of the goals of the mankind who are supposed to be born equal. In this world, discrimination exists everywhere in different forms. What do you think leads to discrimination?
Obviously, discrimination originates from a sense of superiority. When someone get some identities or abilities with life or by accident, or through hard work, they may use these things to distinguish themselves from others. They may think themselves more powerful or more noble.Time passing by,these ideas will turn to discriminations, which deeply influence their attitudes to others.(82-22王子扬)
I think lack of information leads to discrimination. Nearlly under all the circumstances, what we think we discriminate isn't what it actually is, which is because we don't have sufficient information about the object that we are assessing. For example, sometimes people will discriminate others for where they are from, namely regional discrimination. From my perspective, this kind of bias is derived from stereotypes caused by one’s insufficient information about a region and rely on gossip of other’s easily without verification personally. (82-19-凌博涵)
According to the definition of the word discrimination, it is people treat others' defects or birth with an unequal view, so that they get different degrees of loss, mostly with a derogatory color. Discrimination is essentially caused by the differences between people and the narrow vision of a few people. This demeaning perception, or prejudice, can evolve into discrimination when maliciously amplified. On the other hand, one-sided and wrong information, the weakness of the discriminated, and the stereotyped image formed by the masses all lead to and deepen discrimination.(82-15)
Broadly speaking, discrimination refers to people' unequal treatment of a certain defeat, shortcoming, ability, birth and so on, so that people get different degrees of loss, with a derogatory color, which is a kind of personality distortion caused by external factors.
The causes of discrimination can be simply divided into internal and external causes. One is due to subjective creation, including their own cognitive defeats and biases, different perspective of viewing things, and personal characters, interests, ideas and so on. The other is caused by the influence of object things, such as the extreme differences of region, race and environment, and the gap between material and spiritual life.
In essense, discrimination is caused by all kinds of "differences". It is a abnormal manifestation of human psychology and one of the urgent problems in the world nowdays. (82-14)
Some may say the roots of discrimination problems is due to both objective and subjective problem, but from my point of view, the former issue seems to be unable to avoid. Despite the quality written in acts, claims and article, we have to admit that each and every person is born different. That there is diversity in this world doesn't contribute to discrimination directly. It provides an excuse, however, for people who holds hostile attitude, and thus their incorrect, negative attitudes will be abused as long as they achieve the leading voice. Attitudes spread and would infect others. Sometimes we intend not to show discrimination, but the stereotype of some illogical sense of priority may take the lead. In a world, focusing on external differences does no good to find where discrimination originates from, while what matters most is people's opinions and concept. (82-07周佳琦)
I think there are three reasons for discrimination, such as low economic standards, backward quality education, and lack of contact with the outside world. First of all, economic backwardness will lead to low living standards of the people, when life can not be guaranteed, the people naturally can not look at things from a more scientific point of view, which leads to discrimination. Secondly, the backwardness of quality education will make it impossible for people to accept correct, scientific knowledge, and they can only use their own wrong subjective judgment to look at others. Finally, the lack of contact with the outside world makes this deformed social perception abnormal. It is precisely because of the inability to be shocked by correct ideas that discrimination has long existed.(82-28-汪廷浩)
In my opinion, there are three main points that lead to the discrimination. First of all, peple tend to have preference for someone sharing similar culture backgroud and ethnic. Such is human nature that people find these with the same ethnic group and culture approachable. So discrimination may be a problem rooted in human nature and some researches have proved that people are born to distinguish between us and them. What's more, peple live in a world full of information gap and bias. For example, Chinese Exclusion Act, an act which banned Chinese workers from entering America, attanched more importance to the competition between Chinese immigrants and the native people, but turned a blind eye to the wealth and prosperity Chinese people created. Last but not least, the stereotypes of culture, ethnic and gender cannot be broken in some degree. The stereotypes lead to the invariable concepts and offending comments. As a result, the human nature, the information gap and the stereotypes are the main reasons accounting for discrimination.
From my personal perspective, there are three causes accounting for discrimination. To begin with,it is difficult for people to realize the equality of all beings and control their sense of superiority. What's worse,a big proportion of people have a preference for dividing humans into high and low levels. In addition, people are vulnerable to the subtle influence of the outside word, bringing about prejudice and stereotyped image. For a instance, lack of information and less objective reports are easy to contribute to bias and even hatred towards a certain group. Last but not least, those who are discriminated against do not work hard and abandon themselves. A few of black people give themselves up and think they are inferior, reinforcing white prejudice.(82-21)
From my point of view, discrimination happens frequently could be a result of the shortage of proper education. In other word, anti-discrimination information should be spread to children at a very early age. It’s somewhat human nature that people who are different from each other don’t get along well. However, considering the necessity of social stability, people learn to be tolerant towards the contradictories and that should be done in primary education, instead of just letting the next generation follow their parents’ wrong opinions.(82-04)
The root of discrimination lies in the differences between different individuals and different groups. Discriminators often have some conventional advantages. The direct reason is the blind self-confidence or narrow understanding of the discriminator. A spirited person will not discriminate against others. Only blind and narrow-minded people will discriminate against others. Such people often can't see the other highlights of the people they discriminate against, and sometimes their discrimination against others is nonsense. For example, skin color, in fact, different skin colors are not high or low, but discrimination caused by our morbid pursuit of white, which should not be a reason for others to be discriminated against.
From an intellectual level, people tend to classify the people according to the different characteristics of in some way (this feature is often hard to change) and take advantage of the continuity of thinking to relate the group with some good qualities. And some people may think that people in this group have the qualities. That is, a person is in this group, so, he or she has such good qualities. The corresponding idea is that people who are not in my group don't have this quality. People gain feeling of superiority by this, confounding the cause and effect, and ignoring individual differences within groups. People with such beliefs in strong groups discriminate against weak groups.
Studies have shown that people are born with an instinct to recognize difference and to be exclusive, which may be one reason for discrimination. But this tendency can be reduced by nurture. On the contrary, the lack of education and poor information will aggravate this tendency, resulting in discrimination.(82-10)
From my perspectives, discrimination tends to come from three aspects. First of all, unsymmetrical information and information source lead to discrimination. More specifically speaking, stereotypes and the so-called traditions bring about the discrimination. And worse still, the biases are instilled year after year. For example, we are told to women to be sensitive thus they can't analyze things objectively. We are told to female drivers are easier to be panicked when come across accisidents. The cognitions risen from this are apparently lopsided which are general on the outside but false indeed.
Secondly, the arrogance of the vested interests also account for discrimination. They have a well-developed sense of their own superiority, as seemingly they have a higher social status, cognition level, economic condition and so on. At the same time, they are unwilling to admit others equal rights to maintain the current situation so that the superiors can still be a cut above others.
Finally, the discrimination comes from the disadvantages of the people who are discriminated. Black people fell behind comparatively in the history and the invasion of the colonial nations both result in the historical problem: the racial discrimination. (82-20)
From my point of view, discrimination comes from prejudice. Historically speaking, racial discrimination is due to the western countries' leading position in development since modern times, which led to their prejudice and contempt for the colonized regions, and also formed the western colonists' discrimination against other races. Even after each region gained independence, this prejudice became a tradition and continued in some regions. Gender discrimination, which is very common now, is also the product of the long-term feudal patriarchal society. Women are in a suppressed position and considered to play a small role in social development by people in the past, and this concept continues to this day. (82-12)
Equal society though most people have been pursuing, discrimination still exists. The reasons for its appearance are as follow. To begin with, no differences, no discrimination. There is no doubt that if all the people were identical, discrimination could be eliminated completely. Whereas, it is the differences that make this world a rich and colorful place, only with which the society can’t produce discrimination. Another reason is that some people don’t form proper values about class status, especially those who regard themselves superior to others. No matter what race, gender or class we are, we are all independent and equal individuals that shouldn’t be looked down upon as a consequence of any congenital condition. Furthermore, there is no comprehensive legal system to sanction discrimination, which can also be blamed for its existence. Just as the saying goes,” Be sure to keep up with the progress in human thought of law and system.” Now that bias is an incorrect perspective, corresponding penalties are supposed to be attached importance to in order to raise the public’s self-awareness. (82-06)
First of all, I believe that discrimination stems from the inertia to the wrong or narrow ideas. Then it comes from the arrogance and ignorance of the discriminator who are afraid to admit they are fault and change their minds. The deepest reason, I think, is the gulf of power or status between the discriminator and the discriminated, which lead to the acception to the information conveyed by the discriminator. For example, gender discrimination. Women are often expected to put the focus of life on family, while there are few female leaders in a company which is because women are often expected to be docile rather than leading. This kind of discrimination comes from the traditional prejudice in the past. In order to maintain their dominant position, men are unwilling to change their minds, while women in a vulnerable position are unable to resist or numb their minds, which ultimately leads to the formation of gender discrimination.(82-09)
Discrimination, seeing it superficially, difference may be the main reason. But we all know that peaple are born different and it is the difftence that made the world coulorous. So we should admit that it is the each one's explicit stereotype that cause to discrimination. Now almost every country's persuit is equality,Including racial gender region age and so on.But perspectively, the notion we should realy hold is that peaple are born beneficial but not just equal!
In my opinion, a descrimination usually comes from a culture or a class, which is eager to build up barrers, aiming at protecting their privilleges from challenging. And it can be continued generation to generation, having effects on how people view problems, differences and conflicts. (82-29)
From my perspective, discrimination originates form the instinct of human beings. People are inclined to show hostility to those who are different from ourselves. A scientific experiment shows that men show such nature early in the infancy.
However, discrimination was strengthened for lack of understanding. Due to the laziness of the mind, in the process of acquainting the alien people, we prefer to label them. But in most cases, such labels are incorrect and irresponsible. They can be easily influenced by ethnic hatred and non-objective reporting of a group. For example, in some Internet group, the "rich generation" is arrogant and domineering, and the "post-90s" are young and ignorant. But actually the difference of individuals within the same label are sometimes much bigger than people of different labels.(82-26-倪欣煜)
People are born to be equal, while differences exists everywhere.
In order to survive, human ancestors need ethnic unity. In other words, the tendency to find common ground is human genetic instinct. However, differences always exist, and the majority who have the right to govern naturally exclude a few different people. In the period of ancient superstition, different people were regarded as outcasts. In civilized society, the exclusion of different has evolved into discrimination.
Tolerance and empathy can bridge the differences between people, but the fundamental cause of discrimination lies in human genetic selection for thousands of years.
82-18
I reckon that our own preferences are the cause of discrimination. Although we are taught to look at things from an objective perspective, it is undeniable that we will substitute our own ideas, and each of us has a different growth environment, so we will have different views on the same thing. We are always in a relatively fixed environment, because the information we receive is relatively single, and this kind of information difference will also lead to discrimination. We will also generalize, that is, we impose the characteristics of most of a group we see in our impression on everyone in the group, and the stereotype of a group leads to a one-sided view of the individual. 82-16
Systematically, there are three main sources of discrimination. First and foremost, human beings are different in subject. Some people are more prominent in one aspect while others are inferior, which leads to the superiority of the so-called "winners" and discrimination. Another reason is the one-sided and wrong information. People have lived in similar educational environment, cultural environment and media environment since childhood, which instilled some stereotypes in people repeatedly. For instance, homosexuality is anti-nuture. Moreover, the discriminated person's own resigation makes them think that ther are like this and obediently accept the information conveyed by the discriminators. In a nutshell, it is the lack of inclusiveness that causes the discrimination.(82-27)
First of all, due to the education environment, growth environment, cultural environment and media environment, the information received is not comprehensive and objective, resulting in cognitive bias. The ignorance of the discriminator can also cause the discrimination: they accept one-sided information, but take it as the whole, and believe that people, things or things are what they imagine, and are not willing to accept the real situation. At last, because of their weak position, they can't resist the powerful, and even think that they are like this and accept the information conveyed by the discriminator.(82-13)
From my perspective, it’s incomprehension that results in discrimination. Healthy people cannot understand the pain of HIV infected patient. For example, some places refused HIV patients because of the fear of contagion. However, most daily activities cannot lead to infection. It is not the virus but the indifference of human nature that often hurts people. Last but not the least, Social misconceptions also lead to greater discrimination.82-25
I think discrimination mainly comes from the following three points. Firstly, the information received is not comprehensive and objective due to educational environment, growth environment, cultural environment and media environment, resulting in cognitive bias. For example, most girls are considered "unfit to study science" since childhood. The second is the arrogance and ignorance of people who discriminate against others. They accept one-sided information, but regard it as all. They are bent on believing that people and things are what they imagine, and are unwilling to accept the real situation. For example, many people have the stereotype that "women's driving skills are poor". Although it turns out that driving skills have nothing to do with gender, this stereotype has not changed much.
First and foremost, from my perspective, people who have the privilege will not realize it so that they will not pay attention to the problem and say something about it ,which undoubtedly leads to the discrimination to some extent. What' s more, the world is diverse, which means people grow up with totally different environment, culture and lifestyles, resulting in various opinions on the same thing, and quite a few people are unwilling to think about the question from others' point of view. Last but not least, i think, it is the uncomprehensive knowlegde on a problem that may bring about the discrimination to the victims or the weak. 82-01
I think ignorance is the root of discrimination. Study shows that people are born to be hostile to what are different from themselves. After receiving good education, most people would agree that “everyone is equal”. Today, there still are all kinds of discrimination around us due to limitation of environment and people’s arrogance. People living in a specific environment receive one-side narrow information only, as a result, prejudice built unintentionally. Another case is that some arrogance “winners” spread this concept to reach their selfish goal. (82-02)
Honestly, there are varieties of elements that lead to discrimination. First of all, I think, is the cultural level, in some areas, people lack education, thus their vision are narrow, they're bound in their minds, can not tolerant people that are different from them. Moreover, backward customs is another important reason, affected by these backwards ideas, people may discriminate against some aspects of others, such as gender ,grand, and so on.(82-05)
People tend to interpret things in their own way, and what their value system can't explain is unsettling and out of control. People who can't adjust their own standards of judgment, and can't adjust their mentality, will blame the person who happened, in an attempt to reduce their inner anxiety in this way. At the same time, people are worried about the social impact and being xenophobic because they accept different things.82-03
