Isaac Newton's Law and Karma

By Cooper 老师 2019-05-21 731次浏览

Newton’s Third Law of Motion: “For every action there is an equal and opposite reaction.” When we as humans think, speak or act, we are triggering a force that will inevitably result in some sort of a reaction. The returning force may be altered, manipulated or postponed in some way, but it is nearly impossible to eliminate the returning force altogether. In other words, a person is unable to escape the consequences of his or her actions, whether these consequences are good or bad. Hence, in this sense the Newton's discoverry is to some great extent, echoes with Karma.

When the consequence is misfortune, people may lament : why does this happen to me? They do not see the seed that they previously sowed. Since they cannot see the truth, they feel that they are at the mercy of blind justice or God's will. When we understand that everything we experienced in the present results from the past causes, we begin to reorder our priority. Instead of feeling like helpless and blaming others, we start to be more responsible to our lives.  What happens to us is a result of causes we ourselves have set in motion, whether in this life or previous ones. All that's left is for us to take up the challenge and assume full responsibility.

Arguably, if people believe in Karma the society will be much more harmonious for they will shun creating sins which will in due time, returning to them. What goes around, comes around. Thus, upholding a merituous life becomes imperative.

When we talk about karma, I think of some events. Many people have done a lot of good deeds and helped a lot of people, but they did not have a good result, such as the movie "Suyuan", Suyuan did not do anything wrong, why should she receive such cruel treatments? There are a lot of evil people in the world, they do a lot of vicious things, but they get away with laws. Does that still make people believe in karma?

    Valid puzzle of yours indeed.

If we believe in the governance of Karma in all the consequences of our lives, bear in mind that karma doesn't mean consequences of current life only. For instance, when someone commited unwholesome deeds in their countless past lives, the adverse or hardship he/she is curbing with in this current life is merely culmination of actions sown before and these fruits of consequences are ripenning now. Suyuan doesn't seem to be devious or sinful this lifetime, on the surface, yes. What she is reaping now is from her past action performed, not in this lifetime. However, if she did uphold a morally justified life this time around, her life will eventually yield fruits of merit. Until then, she will have to endure the toilsome of karma from the past until it is worn off.

As for those crooks who commited severe crimes, they never actually 'got away'. What they've done, is embeded within their heart. When the time is due, the karma ripens and torment ensued.
